IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS STRUGGLING WITH MENTAL HEALTH DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC CALL 211

Mental health is something often neglected in mainstream circles due to the connotation associated with mental disorders. While not necessarily visible, mental disorders are to be taken just as seriously as any other disease or injury.

The 211 helpline services are completely free to callers and offer a wide range of mental health services. This help-line is the only 24/7 help-line in Miami-Dade county that helps with counseling, referral, and information about mental health awareness.

These can range from finding a local food drive, to dealing with people struggling with suicidal thoughts. Trained employees are there to connect and provide the help that callers need. There are 32 full-time and part-time staff in the network that are currently working overtime to meet the demands of the 211 services.

In the trying times of battling Covid-19, many have experienced additional difficulties that may have caused harm to their mental and behavioral health. Director Richard Shutes of 211 Miami mentioned, “We have more than doubled our normal call volume with calls answered.”

As of now, the majority of calls received are related to the uncertainties of the Covid-19 pandemic and how these affect low-income communities. Concerns about food, health care, housing, income support, and mental health.

The 211-call line is operated by the Jewish Community Services of South Florida and funded by the Children’s trust. Services are available 24 hours per day, every day of the year. Services offered include one-on-one support to give guidance, resources, and mental health awareness. Having access to these is even more critical during rough times.

Again, remember that your mental health is of utmost importance. The Covid-19 pandemic brought unprecedented circumstances for all of us, and everyone needs help at times and should try to reach mental health therapists nearby or mental health clinics to take proper treatment of mental illness and other mental-related issues.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, take advantage of the free services offered by 211 Miami-Dade helpline services. For more information visit https://jcsfl.org/services/helpline/ and follow them on Instagram 211Miami (@211miami).
